The Teacher of the Year Awards are presented to outstanding teachers in the North Shore Elementary Schools. The winners are selected by their fellow teachers and receive a framed certificate and a check for $250 in recognition of their achievement.

Kathy Kinch has been teaching second grade at the Hanalei School for 37 years and has taught many of the parents of current students at the school. Although she will be retiring from teaching after this school year, she will remain active in the A-Plus Program. Hanalei Elementary School Principal Corey Nakamura commented on her dedication and professionalism and stated that she will be missed.

Suzanne is the second grade teacher at KULA and was the unanimous choice of her peers for the teacher of the year award. Some of the comments of her colleagues about Suzanne include:

Sue inspires and motivates her students with hands-on/active learning curriculum that is fun... She goes above and beyond in all of her work activities... Sue sets all of her pride aside when it comes to honoring others strengths.

Richard Larson

Richard Larson was named Teacher of the Year at Kilauea Elementary School. Richard is the 6th grade teacher at Kilauea where he has been a teacher for the past 16 years. A teacher since 1969, he was the unanimous choice of his peers. At the club meeting on June 14th, he was presented with a certificate and a cash award. Richard was accompanied by his wife Cathy, Joanne Thompson, Heather Devin and Kilauea Elementary School Principal Fred Rose.
